The 96,000–square foot Fine Center for the Arts consists of three elements that redefine the western edge of the Miami-Dade Community College campus. These three elements—containing classrooms, art studios, parking and services—create a sense of spatial enclosure to articulate a new fine arts quadrangle. The classroom building is a long, narrow, three-story bar raised on pilotis. The predominantly open ground floor becomes a transition zone between paved parking areas and a landscaped green. At the southern end of the bar, a curved computer library on the second floor frames a portal through the building, linking the parking with the campus. Art studios, the second element, are contained in three small sheds on the southeast corner of the landscaped green. The third element of the arts quadrangle is a five-story structure combining a parking garage with central utilities plant and faculty offices. |
